WHAT IS VINHO VERDE?

Vinho Verde directly translated means “green wine,” but its name refers to the age of the wine rather than its color.

Its name concerns the fact that a Vinho Verde is consumed when the wine is young, usually within 1 year of pressing. Vinho Verdes are typically a white wine, with a lemon or straw color, but can also be a red or rosé.

With a low alcohol content of 9% to 11% and natural acidity, these wines are typically light and fresh and feature fruity and floral aromas. Vinho Verdes also have a slight carbonation that’s enough to tickle your throat but not enough to be considered a sparkling wine.

Named after the land where the first grapes of this wine came from - the area surrounding a centuries-old house still inhabited by farmers at Quinta da Aveleda - it is a blend of four Portuguese white varietals: Trajadura, Loureiro, Arinto and Azal.

On the label, you can see the crest that has belonged to the Guedes family for many years. It symbolizes the tight connection to Aveleda's history and tradition.

Aveleda Fonte is a fresh, fruity light wine that offers freshness to the palate and romanticism to the spirit.

Its simple label and the deep green bottle reveal what you are about to experience: a vivacious and smooth white Vinho Verde that can be the perfect match for light meals, seafood or served as an appetizer.

The careful temperature control during the winemaking process produces a wine that is slightly citrine in color, clear and bright. It’s a well balanced wine with a fresh and fruity aroma and a soft, silky finish. Ideal as an aperitif, with fish, seafood or salads. Serve between 8 and 10ºC.

Aveleda selected the Loureiro, Trajadura and Arinto grapes from the best vineyards in the region. When the ideal maturation stage is reached, the grapes are brought to Aveleda where they are cooled before being pressed at low pressure. The fermentation, in stainless steel tanks, is carefully controlled at temperatures of 16-18ºC. Finally, the wine is filtered and cold-stabilized before being bottled.
