Once upon a time, there was a house that belonged to a famous politician and wine-grower from the 19th Century, the Viscount of Agueira. His estate, located in the charming lands around Águeda, disclosed in itself one of the major secrets: the art of producing fine wines, being the first producer bottling red wine in the region.
In 1998, Aveleda acquired this wonderful treasure and has enriched it more and more, with the help of the famous French winemaker, Professor Denis Dubourdieu. Since then, the wine produced here has been taken care with wisdom and passion that now represent its unique personality.
The wine has a deep ruby color. The blackcurrant, cherry and chocolate notes are evident and perfectly integrated with notes of wood. On the palate this is a full-bodied, balanced and elegant wine with notes of blackberry, fig and spices
complemented with firm and round tannins. A classic example of the famous
Portuguese red grape variety Touriga Nacional, this is an exceptional, opulent wine.
Complementary to a wide range of foods, including grilled salmon, pork
tenderloin and beef. Also pairs well with roasted game and mushrooms.
Serve between 16 and 18ºC.
The vines are planted in sandy loam topsoil with subsoil formed of rolled rocks and clay. They are trained in an ascending cordon. The vines are pruned by the Guyot method, excess branches and leaves are removed and the vines are trained to aid in the maturation of the grapes.
Produced from the best parcels of Touriga Nacional vines, the grapes have high sugar levels and balanced acidity. The grapes are harvested manually under
optimum conditions and the clusters are selected manually from the vine.
Fermentation occurs in small tanks at controlled temperatures (26-28ºC)
followed by maceration for about 3 weeks. After malolactic fermentation, the wine ages in French oak barrels for 12 months. Finally, it is bottled and aged for another 12 months in bottle. Awards:
